Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building



Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building laid down in 1947 and completed in 1952. The Skyscraper was design by the architect D. Chechulina, A. Rostkowska and engineer L. Gokhman. Main tower has 32 levels and is 176 meters tall. This building was placed in closes distance from the Kremlin and at the confluence of the Moskva River and Yauza River.

It was intended as an elite housing building with seven hundred apartments and Stalin himself controlled the list of tenants. There were cinema “Illusion”, shops, coffee-houses, beauty salons and SPA, post office. Tenants were very famous people: actors, writers, scientists… Notable residents of the building include Galina Ulanova, Yuri Lyubimov, Faina Ranevskaya, Andrey Voznesensky. Galina Ulanova (one of the greatest 20th Century ballerinas) apartment is preserved as a museum.

Built in a neo-gothic design, Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building drew inspiration from the Hotel Metropol. The Building itself is a very handsome with many obelisks and groups of sculptures.
